The Needle (Mountain)

The Needle is a mountain peak in the Absaroka Range, located in upper northeastern portion of the park entirely within the border of the park due south of Silver Gate. The peak has two summits and a "needle's eye" arch and was originally referred to as "The Needles" (plural), and that was the name given to it by the Arnold Hague in 1885. In 1930, the U. S. Board of Geographic Names, for unknown reasons, approved the singular name as the "official" name of the peak.

The Needle peak should not be confused with another geological feature in the park, a spire near Tower Falls known as The Needle.
