Peale Island is a small island located in the southernmost reaches of the South Arm of Yellowstone Lake. It was given its name in 1878 by the third Hayden Survey team for Dr. A. C. Peale, a medical doctor who'd accompanied Hayden on all three of his expeditions through the park. Dr. Peale wrote extensively on the thermal features of the park.

The Peale Island Patrol Cabin is located on the island, and is often used to house the President of the United States when he remains in the park overnight due to its remote location.
